About | The SS France was the longest ocean liner built in 1960. It is available as a FULLY ASSEMBLED model ready to be proudly display.
Master craftsmen handcraft these highly detailed wood models from scratch using historical photographs, drawings and original plan. They are built to scale with high-grade woods such as: western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. They are 100% hand built individually using a plank-on-frame construction method and are similar to the building of actual ships. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop.
The SS France eye capturing details include the following features: multiple wood decks, hundreds of open windows, lifeboats, rudders, metal anchors, wooden stairs, painted smoke stacks, and intricate rigging. The model is painted in red, white, and black to replicate the original ship colors.
The model is secured tightly on a black solid wood base with a brass nameplate. It’ll make a perfect gift for home or office decorator, boat enthusiast, or passionate collector. |
History | SS France was a French Line ocean liner, constructed by the Chantiers de lAtlantique shipyard at Saint-Nazaire, France, and put into service in February 1962. At the time of her construction in 1960 she was the longest passenger ship ever built, a record that remained unchallenged until the construction of the 345 metre RMS Queen Mary 2 in 2004. France was later purchased by Norwegian Cruise Line in 1979 renamed SS Norway and underwent significant modifications that better suited her for cruising duties. She was sold to be scrapped in 2006, and scrapping was completed in late 2008. |
